World Hypnotism Day

Unbelievable as it seems, there is a new holiday, called World Hypnotism Day. I think we should all get January 4th off! January 1 is Tuesday, I believe, so just take Friday off as well!

This will be the fourth WHD, which was established by one of my favorite hypnotists, Tom Nicoli, of the National Guild of Hypnotists.

On Friday, January 4, at 4pm, I will celebrate WHD by presenting a program at the Tarpon Springs Library, called New Year's Resolutions you can keep! I'm going to discuss some simple techniques you can use to make those resolutions stick until you have reached your goal! I hope to see you there!

Remember: Jan. 4 at 4, the 4th WHD.

Happy Christmas!

"Twas the night before a NLP Christmas"by Ed Redard MD

"Twas the night before Christmas"
And look what I find
All these empowering resources
In my unconscious mind
My beliefs and values
Were aligned with great care
In hopes that Erickson
Could work with what's there
The fears of my past
Were all put to bed
While visions of trance
Danced in my head
I took a deep breath
And adjusted my cap
And settled my brain
For a long winters nap
When into my head
There arose such a clatter
I set up in bed
To see what was the matter
Deep into my mind
I flew like a flash
And shut out the world
By pulling the sash
My tender new beliefs
Shown white as the snow
And gave the luster of permanence
To the convictions below
When, what to my minds eye
Should curiously appear
But the kind Milton Erickson
Drawing me near
With hypnotic language
Seductively slick
I knew in a moment
He put me in trance quick
Reaching down in my memories
The resources they came
With a deep and slow voice
He called them by name
Now Courage, now Compassion
Now Love and Conviction
On Power, On Laughter
On Faith and Determination
To the top of mind
Deep inside I knew how
Now integrate! Integrate!Integrate Now!
And then in a twinkling
Without any grief
Empowering new ideas
Integrated into beliefs
As I lounged in my head
And was turning around
Deeper into my consciousness
Erickson came with a bound
He was dressed all in purple
From his head to his boots
With his hypnotic skills
Resisting was moot
He was kindly and wise
And quite assured of himself
And I went into trance
In spite of myself
He spoke many strange words
And went straight to work
Creating new possibilities
And then turned with a jerk
Clutching onto an idea
To a dream he gave a whistle
And flew out of my mind
Like a heat seeking missile
But I heard him exclaim
As he flew out of site
Happy NLPing to all
And to all a good night!

I think this poem is very amusing, hope you do, too!

Health and Wellness Information

HEALTH info! Ha!

We have a new bulletin board up in the Communication Room, which is labeled “Wellness Information.” The flyers and articles, and brochures are about breast cancer, prostate cancer, some medications, and the deadly effects of stress. So where is the WELLness information? I have also encountered this in my Doctor’s office. They have a Board with probably 40 slots for all kinds of pamphlets for every popular disease, like asthma, cancer, CPD, including normal conditions, which are treated as diseases by the medical profession, like menopause.

I always hang up a flyer about hypnosis. This is truly WELLNESS information, as it has been documented that hypnosis reduces stress and stress lowers the immune system and can exacerbate any condition. Also there are many more recent studies about the ways that hypnosis can be used in conjunction with traditional treatments to reduce symptoms, and reduce anxiety before and during medical procedures, and reduce the need for pain medication after surgery. It also has been shown to reduce recovery time!

I just wonder why they call it Health information, when it is information about disease...

You don't know Jack!

"Thoughts are things. Negativity is what kills you," Jack often says. And he means it! The prime directive of the Self Master is control over the mind and emotions, and Jack is indeed a master. For him, self-control is the key to liberation: "It's tough to do, but you've got to work at living, you know? Most people work at dying, but anybody can die; the easiest thing on this earth is to die. But to live takes guts; it takes energy, vitality; it takes thought. . . . We have so many negative influences out there that are pulling us down. . . . You've got to be strong to overcome these adversities . . . that's why I never stop." Jack's one-dimensional yoga is one-dimensional, but his example is indeed remarkable. And while surrender and spiritual depth almost never seem to be acquaintances of the Self Masters, the utter simplicity and indomitable spirit they embody may pose almost as great a challenge to the ego as enlightenment itself. How many of us can claim to know the peace of mind and purity of heart of one such as Jack LaLanne?

Wow! I can’t believe I found this on a website for Jack LaLanne. He’s 94 and still going strong. Wonder if it has anything to do with his positive attitude?

You don't know Jack??!! He was the first guy to do exercise on TV!

Hypno- Holiday Party

We had a meeting on November 19. We discussed Automatic writing. Please forgive any mistakes in this entry, as I am writing automatically. Really! No, not really.

We had a surprise guest, who has just completed a book about creativity and we discussed how many authors and writers use automatic writing without really calling it such.

Thank you, Janet. It was fascinating!

The next meeting is scheduled for December 17 and will be about Reducing Stress during the holidays, with a guided meditation led by Gail Sabo. Please bring a dessert or snack to share. I thought dinner items would be too stressful, and there are just so many eating frenzies going on this time of year!

Get Rich

Wallace Wattles wrote a book called The Science of Getting Rich. He said that getting rich was mathematically certain if you have faith in his “Science of getting rich,” which is in fact primarily metaphysical, despite his assertions that it is pragmatic and not philosophical, highlighting the difference between science and faith. Is belief scientific? Can it be measured objectively? Is metaphysical science an oxymoron?

He supports his ideas with indisputable logic. I like the way he thinks, but is it truly logic? Rather that expressing his thoughts in overly emphatic language, a few more examples that do not involve farming might be helpful. He gives the instructions with which to proceed to accomplish and attain all that you desire. He argues that desire is normal, natural and correct. That all life seeks abundance.

The thing I liked most about Wattles is this, that he advocates using hypnosis! Not in so many words, but he says repeated suggestions can assist the subconscious to accept beliefs that success is possible and inevitable. He believes the subconscious mind is the most significant power behind motivation.

He quit

I just found out that someone who attended my How to Stop Smoking seminar at the library last week has quit smoking! He had only one cigarette after the presentation and then kept forgetting to buy cigarettes!

Darn, I'm good!

Empowering Words

--------** Relationship Tip of the Day by Dr. Annette Colby, RD **-------
---- Be acutely aware of the words you use when you are feeling insecure. Observe how you speak to yourself and the words you use when you are feeling overwhelmed or discouraged. Do they empower you or leave you feeling powerless? Do you walk to the nearest mirror and give yourself supportive words, or do you kick yourself when you are already feeling down? Do you offer messages of encouragement or words that hurt? Is your tone rooted in fear or filled with love of self? Positive, self-affirming, resourceful, and loving language -- spoken or thought -- is what allows you to successfully navigate through your journey. Read the rest of the article, "How to Love and Support Yourself While Trying to Reach Your Goal," at http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/How_to_Love_and_Support_Yourself_While_Trying_to_Reach_Your_Goal.html

I thought I would share this article with you as it is about the power of words, also about self-talk.

Quit Smoking Information

There is some excellent information available on the web about quitting smoking.

You can find out about all the different products available. I just read that if you really want to make sure you quit for good this time, use a nicotine replacement therapy or herbal formula combined with hypnosis or group therapy. Now that sounds like a good idea, and I have had several clients who did that. Some people have tried unsuccessfully before, so just to make sure, they combine a chemical aid which helps to ease the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, with hypnosis sessions to modify the behavior, addressing both the physical habit as well as the behavioral habit.

Although hypnosis alone may work with 66% of former smokers, this is really good news for the other smokers who have really stubborn habits. The 66% is the median of the numerous statistics cited for successful smoking cessation with hypnosis. The highest was 79% and the lowest 22%. Keep in mind 2 things:

1. Though they give you the statistic, they may not explain whether the "hypnotism" was one session or multiple sessions, or whether it was an individual session or group session,

2. And that when dealing with addictions, 20% is considered a great success.

I found some interesting articles on Ezine about smoking cessation:

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Does-Smoking-Cigarettes-Reduce-Stress?&id=687385, and
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Hardest-Habit-to-Break&id=220345.

And if you want to use affirmations to help achieve your goals, you can find great books at the library or favorite bookstore. I spoke at the Library, and I had some books on the table in front, but forgot to mention them during the lecture.

Friday, November 9, 2007

After the presentation

Wow! It's so great! 20 people showed up for How to Stop Smoking Using Affirmations. At least 18 or 90% were smokers. Also, 100% were intelligent, open minded individuals, a great audience.

I think the library will welcome me back as they haven't had such an exceptional audience in quite a while.

Thank you for attending!

Remember to affirm every day as often as possible, I am a healthy, active, fresh-air breather!
I quickly and easily reach my goals! Every day in every respect I get better and better!

Words

Words are like weapons, they hurt you somethimes. That's from a song by Cher.

But I assert,
Words are like diamonds,
sometimes they sparkle, sometimes they cut.
You may quote me.

Wake up!

Someone told me at a presentation I was doing Tuesday evening at SPC, that hypnosis was shown on a recent episode of The Office. Someone was hypnotized, in his own home and the hypnotist had a heart attack and was taken away. This left the person in trance. And on TV, they showed that he sat there for several days, in trance and didn’t respond to his alarm clock or anything around him. TV can be such a great educational tool, but they are usually way off base when they show hypnotism. For example, this episode of The Office shows that the myth about people getting stuck in hypnosis and not being able to awaken as a possibility. I have been taught that this is impossible and have been told that hypnosis will transition to natural sleep if the person is not awakened. As a hypnotist I have found this to be true. I have seen some clients fall asleep and many have told me they listen to recorded sessions and then fall asleep at night. Sleep is not the same as hypnosis. Sleeping people do not hear or respond to instructions. Some clients do start to fall asleep, but usually come back to the trance state, and may go in and out for awhile, but if they open their eyes I when I suggest that they return to the normal waking state and they do, I know they were not sleeping. But sleep is not dangerous and people will wake up if they need to use the bathroom, or feel hungry, or there is a loud noise. If you awaken every morning to the ring of an alarm clock, you have already programmed yourself to respond to this cue and it would be unlikely that you would ignore it even if in trance.

Hypnosis on TV

I finally saw it! The Mythbusters episode about hypnosis! They try to explode 2 myths about hypnosis. It’s funny, I have met the hypnotist who did the first segment, Seth. The first segment was an effort to see if someone will do something against their will, ethics or morals. They decided to hypnotize one of their staff and see if he would damage some of his own beloved technological equipment. Seth gave him 2 post-hypnotic suggestions to follow the next day. Both of them failed. When the person heard or saw the cues, he did not follow the suggestion, but broke out laughing instead. He said he knew what they wanted him to do, but he didn’t feel compelled to do it, not even to jump up and down when someone yawned. But he definitely wasn’t going to deface his favorite robot. Just for good measure they tried it with another staff member who wanted to use hypnosis to stop chewing on the tops of her pens. Seth hypnotized her and they didn’t show the parts where she gave her instructions about keeping the pen away from her mouth, but they did show her attempt to give a posthypnotic suggestion. The person opened her eyes and said I didn’t agree to this! This is trickery! Of course she works for the Mythbusters, and may have been suspicious when they offered her a free hypnosis session as part of their research. This confirmed the “myth” that you can’t be forced to do something against your will.

The next segment explored the “myth” that hypnosis can enhance memory, possibly for the purpose of a criminal investigation. They hired 2 actors to come in and start an altercation with the 2 featured players on the show. The other 3 who were involved in the first segment… Why can’t I remember their names? Wait, let me do a little memory-enhancing hypnosis. OK, Grant, Tory, and Kari answered questions in writing about the incident after it happened and they were told it had been staged for this purpose. Then another hypnotist came in and hypnotized the 3 of them as a group and instructed them to remember the incident, visualize it in their minds, and imagine that they can rewind, fast forward, or use slow motion to retrieve the details. He asked them each question on the form and instructed them to write their answers. And when the form was completed he aroused them from trance. All 3 of them remembered more details. And what they remembered was accurate! One remembered a name, the other remembered a tattoo, and the other remembered the dialog, almost word for word. The first 2 details would definitely be helpful in a criminal investigation, so They concluded that hypnosis can enhance memory. I am very pleased they revealed this to the public, even though their explanation of hypnosis was cursory. And they confirmed the information I was given by a former policeman in New York City. He did forensic hypnosis for the police over 10 years ago and he found, in a 6-year study that the information given by victims and witnesses was 52% relevant (notice 2 out of 3 gave relevant information for Mythbusters), and 95% accurate. Ninety-five percent accurate!!! That’s in line with what the Mythbusters found, and absolutely amazing!!!

I got hypnotized!

We had a chapter meeting on October 15. It was really interesting. We did 3 hypnosis sessions. Two used dual inductions and one was a single Harry Arons induction. I like the dual inductions and I think they are wonderful for most clients. One of our guests experienced hypnosis three times!

A few of the members want to learn more about Automatic Writing, so we will probably attempt that at our next meeting!

The next meeting is November 19, at 7:30 pm. It will be held at The Blue Orchid Healing Center at 1004 Indiana Avenue in Palm Harbor. It's on the corner of Indiana and Alternate 19. Thank you Debbie Lane, for allowing us to use your office next time.

Happiness Hour

There is another Happiness Hour next Wednesday. I am sure to be there, since the last one was such a positive experience for me. I told my parents that I tried acupuncture, and they asked what for, arthritis? I said just to release any energy blockages along the meridians. They said, huh? I said it was like a tune-up. But what I love is not just the increased physical energy, but the increased mental clarity and especially the slight buzz I get. I mean acupuncture combined with hypnosis—that provides a healthy energizing kind of buzz and it only takes 15 minutes and has no unpleasant side effects.

This is a true "happiness" hour, not a happy hour where alcohol is served. No hangovers.

This will be at the Blue Orchid in Palm Harbor. See http://www.wisdomhypnosis.com/news.html for details.

More Waiting

I hate to wait. I find many of my clients are impatient, also. When I work with someone, we have to set realistic goals. I sometimes have a problem with that word, realistic, since hypnosis is so powerful and affects so many things.

But basically, if you have 60 pounds to lose, it cannot be done in 6 weeks, so matter how many protein shakes you drink or herbs you take. The idea is to lose weight safely, and to lose only fat, not muscle or water. We want to stay healthy and even become more healthy and energetic as we readjust our size and adopt better eating habits.

This is why hypnosis is so effective for weight loss: keeping motivation high, changing cravings, reducing appetite, reducing stress, so increasing energy!!

Waiting

Hypnosis doesn't just keep you motivated, although that's a nice benefit. It really helps to curb the appetite. The appetite is controlled by the mind. That's why if you see a commercial with food, juicy hamburgers with crisp lettuce, pizza with the cheese flowing just a little, a piece of rich, dark chocolate cake, you may decide it's a good idea to eat something. This used to happen to me a lot. But that is not hunger. That is appetite. I have always had a good appetite. What happens when your eyes are bigger than you stomach, is that you thought it looked so good, you wanted to take a huge portion of it. That's not hunger. Hunger originates in the stomach, when it is empty, which means it has completed digestion of the last meal or snack you consumed. It may take over 2 or 3 hours before your stomach becomes empty.
Appetite is also thinking you're hungry when it's 12 noon. Well it's lunch time! Or whatever time you usually eat a meal. Or when you see attractive food, on TV or real life. When I watch the Soprano's I always crave eggplant parmesan or lasagne.
So the point is, hunger is from the stomach, but appetite is from the mind! And hypnosis can help keep your appetite under control. I like the suggestion that a small portion of food will completely satisfy me. It also helps with cravings. If you want to crave healthy, natural foods, like apples! Apples are just great for healthy eating programs. They have lots of fiber! Crisp, juicy apples. If you eat one, 20 minutes before a meal, you will consume less. And they used to say, an apple a day keeps the doctor away! They are good for you in many ways. Enough about apples. Time to go eat one!

Dual Induction

John Filiss just sent me a link to a fantastic article about Dual Inductions. That means 2 hypnotists are speaking to you at the same time. This is what we’re going to do in a few weeks at our chapter meeting! Here’s the link: http://lets-talk.com/hypnoticreflections/2005/03/dual-inductions.html.

I’m going to do some research and see if there is anything out there about multiple inductions, more than 2 voices. I will let you know.

Waiting for the Scale to catch up

I just read Why Diets Don't Work for Women over 40 by Susan Lark, MD.

It's funny how this showed up in my email today, after I just had a couple of conversations with people over the last few days about this. First of all, this does not mean that women over 40 cannot lose fat. What it means is that diets that work great if you want to gain weight. Everyone I know, who has been on a diet which restricts calories or carbohydrates, has ultimately gained at least five pounds more than their original weight (about 2 months after they lost the weight). So that's where hypnosis comes in. It really helps someone to stay motivated while they are on a program of healthy eating and increased activity. A program of healthy eating is not a "diet!" It is merely knowing which foods are healthy and which are not! Most of us have a pretty good idea about this, but ask your chiropractor or weight loss coach if you really need more information.

Hypnosis helps to keep you motivated during the plateaus, which occur naturally every time you lose 10% of your body weight. This is the time that many succumb to temptation, or even decide to chuck the whole thing as the scale is not reflecting all their effort. That's why it can be self-defeating to weigh yourself every day. Sometimes it takes the scale a little while to catch up with you. It's a scale, a machine, it's not perfect! So hang in there. Reinforce your persistence and motivation through hypnosis.

I work with clients while they lose fat, and beyond, to make sure they maintain their ideal weight. Most tell me it's easy to lose fat, but making permanent changes in their lives is not so easy.

September Meeting Notes

Great meeting last night. We discussed Weight Management techniques. Debbie Lane informed us that unless the client wants needs to lose 20 pounds or more, it is not weight loss, but "weight management." Several of us expressed that although we assist our clients to lose fat, we concentrate on the gains, because we work with winners, not losers! They gain fitness, health, energy, and of course, they look better.

Next meeting will be October 15 at 7pm in Tarpon Springs. We are going to attempt something that has never been done before. And we really don't know how well it will work. But I am confident that it will work perfectly. No matter what happens, it will be perfect. Things will happen as they should.

The post card invitations will say the topic is Dual (and triple) Inductions, an Interactive Hypnotic Experience. Every member will have the opportunity to hypnotize other members and to be hypnotized by a group of members.

We have such a dynamic, enthusiastic group. I am looking forward to this bold, daring experiment!

Meeting tonight

There will be a meeting tonight of the Tampa Bay Area chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists. I am looking forward to it. We are going to discuss weight management techniques.

Anyone interested in hypnotism is welcome to come. We will discuss different types of suggestions that we use with clients. A group session could happen, but if you want to use hypnosis to lose weight, I recommend that you contact a hypnotherapist and discuss the type of program that would be right for you. One session may result in some positive changes, but if you want to lose weight and keep it off, several sessions would be necessary and it would be advisable to learn self-hypnosis so you can keep reinforcing the new positive behaviors.

Creativity vs. Stress

I think it is interesting that all of the suggestions for reducing stress are also ways of enhancing creativity. I guess that should be no surprise, since Stress kills Creativity. When a creative person experiences a block, it is always caused by stress. Sometimes we create our own stress. And the right amount of stress motivates us to accomplish things. Stress can be a tribulation or an opportunity. But when our modern lives seem to be spinning out of control, that means it’s time to slow down and Take a Break!

Take a Break, Now! Wednesday 5:30pm at The You-nit Holistic Wellness Center in Palm Harbor. See previous post: Stress Workshop.

Stress is all around us. It’s right behind you! But don’t get paranoid!

Stress or distress?

The modern world is such a busy place that we rarely have a moment of peace to sit down and take a deep breath! We run from appointment to appointment for ourselves and our kids. This is called too-busy syndrome. There is something you can do about this problem! Gloria will share several techniques that work by reducing stress and anxiety. These can be used every day to improve all areas of your life; career, health, family and relationships.

Do you experience any of these symptoms of stess and anxiety?

· Butterflies in stomach

· Rapid heartbeat
· Tensing or tightening of muscles
· Shakiness
· Dry mouth
· Wanting to run away
· Lump in Throat
· Tight chest, hyperventilation
· Feelings of Doom
· Headache
· Numbness or dizziness
· Diarrhea

Stress. It makes everything worse. And everyone seems to have it. I've been asked to give a workshop at the You-nit Holistic Wellness Center in Palm Harbor on Wednesday evening at 5:30pm. So if you need a break, please join us. See the previous article for more information.

Sensational

This one is about .... WORDS!

What a surprise!

How to protect yourself from negativity. When I was feeling sick and headachey on the plane (in June), I asked the flight attendant for some ibuprophen. She said they didn’t have any and I better get ready for a rocky ride! I know her intentions were good (just like the phlebotomist [see Big Poke]), She said she wanted to warn me, so I could prepare myself. Then the captain came on and said the seat belt light would be on for a while because we were entering an area where there often is turbulence. That’s when it struck me! The urge to regurgitate? No! The idea that even though the flight attendant and the captain had had turbulent experiences in this area before, they were not aware of any turbulence at the current time. It was just a warning, just a possiblility. I concentrated on a smooth ride. I focused on feeling better. I stopped breathing deeply, as that made my nausea worse. This was a long flight, 8 or 10 hours. Fortunately my expectations won out over the flight staff’s. The ride was mostly smoothe.

I guess it’s difficult to know how and when to tell someone to prepare for the worst. In our litigious society, we have to inform people that they may get burned if they spill boiling hot coffee on themselves, or we are being irresponsible. But can “Be careful with that!” work? Or “I’m going to insert the instrument now?” Rather than “You’re going to feel a big poke.” Or worse yet, "Don’t worry, I’ve only given one person a hematoma!” Someone at my seminar told me that one. She was lucky enough to experience the second hematoma after her phlebotomist's warning!

Words! Be careful with them! They can enlighten or burden someone. What purpose do you want to serve? Remember tact and diplomacy. What about “some people experience some discomfort, but most feel only a slight sensation of pressure…”

Sensation is a sensssational word. So much better than "pain." And did you know that the AMA approved hypnosis in 1958 and will work with a hypnotist in the surgery room (if someone is allergic to chemical anesthesia)? Dentists work with hypnotists, also, and you can always bring a CD player or IPOD with you and play a hypnosis recording when you are in the dentist's chair. I've done it! Most dentists like it when the client is relaxed.

Next year

Every year when I arrive in Massachusetts I wonder why I seek out speaking opportunities. I feel excited about the presentation. And this year it wasn't until Sunday morning, so I had 2 days to feel anxious. Usually I request Saturday morning or afternoon, but not evening. I don't want to do a presentation while the stage shows are going on. I usually like to see at least one of them. But I guess it's easy to answer my initial question. If you read my previous article, you can see that I get a high after a good presentation. And since several people asked me for more information, I think I will send in another proposal for Verbal Impact, 2 hours this time. And it may be time to dust off the presentation I did on the Mother of Hypnosis a few years ago. I will completely revamp it. I don't want to do lectures anymore. I want it to be experiential. I think that will be more interesting for the participants and for me, too. I did Creative Hypnosis last year, and I guess I am more creative because of it!

I guess I do enjoy public speaking. Who would have ever thought it? I remember how sick I got before a presentation in H.S. And a class I dropped because speaking in front of the class was required in college! But when I learned Hypnotism, I started using self-hypnosis to eliminate the fear of public speaking. Obviously, it worked!

Live Long

Hypnosis and the Aging Process

Can hypnosis affect the aging process? Deepak Chopra says that nothing has more influence over the body than the beliefs of the mind. He also says that the most common signs of aging are caused by a widespread social hypnosis.

So if the signs of aging are based on hypnosis, it makes sense that hypnosis could slow them down or perhaps even reverse them.

I think it’s very important to eat and sleep regularly, and to have a sense of purpose. If residents in a nursing home are given a plant to take care of, they tend to be more actively involved in the social community, which also improves their health. If our thoughts and words are positive, can that influence us?

More about this topic on http://musinglog.blogspot.com/ under the title "Hypnotic Eloquence."

Lacey Snowflakes

What the bleep do we know? It’s a great title for an enigmatic movie. In the movie they show some intriguing photographs of water molecules. Frozen water molecules look like snowflakes! Actually, not all of them. The water molecules are put in bottles with labels on them. The labels have words or phrases on them. And words like” love,” “appreciation,” and “beautiful” form delicate crystals. Phrases like “Adolph Hitler” or “I hate you” prevent crystals from forming. Dr. Emoto is the man responsible for these photographs. He has at least 4 books right now which show the results of his experiments.

Can the water read? How does the water react to the label or the spoken word? It’s probably possible to investigate the sound waves and see which ones create the prettiest crystals, but what about the label? What type of sound waves or vibrations emit from a label? And how does the water pick up on it? And that probably means that the brand name is significant. For example “Pure Life” is more positive than “Zephyrhills,” isn’t it?

I hope to see Dr. Emoto at the I Can Do It Tampa Conference in October. I am just fascinated by his work. We know music and sounds influence plants, as well as humans. But all of the bodies of water on this planet seem to absorb energy from the human population. I think we need to concentrate on peace and positive thoughts. These make the water more pure and drinking pure water facilitates health in humans. Drinking a gallon of water each day is good for you, right? Not if it’s polluted!!! Be sure to say thank you to the water before you drink it. And it also helps to say "you're beautiful." Just say it out loud to the water. Especially if an attractive person is nearby. They will either think you are talking to them or think you're crazy.

NGH meeting and convention

They got me! They thought I was funny. They didn't want the session to end. They told me they wished I had more time and I should do this same topic next year for 2 hours! I was so high when I ran to the next seminar!

I'm referring to the presentation of Verbal Impact which I did on Sunday morning. 18 people made it there by 8am, the morning after the Banquet dinner. So that's not bad. I've done an 8am before when only 8 people showed up.

Now I'm looking forward to the Local Chapter meeting which is on Monday night (8-20) at 7pm in Tarpon Springs. We are going to discuss the highlights of the convention. We are going to decide what to discuss at the next meeting. I will recommend that we listen to one of the presentations recorded at the convention this year. They record all the seminars every year. There are a few I want to buy because I had to miss them.

If you are interested in attending the Tampa Bay Area Chapter of the NGH, please see my website, http://www.enlightenedhypnosis.com/ for the details. All are invited and the meeting is free.

Provocative and Invigorating

I am ready for my close-up...I mean, presentation. And I am glad it's at 8am on Sunday morning. It will be a very invigorating and provocative way to start the day.

I will probably give away bottles of water, and maybe some type of breakfast food. Granola would probably be appropriate. Maybe fruit...

My presentation is about words. And it's directed towards hypnotists, who use words as tools every day. I just don't think that even though we know the power (impact) of words on our clients, that we are as vigilant about the words we use in casual conversation, or especially the words we use with ourselves. So we are going to learn about the effects of words on people and on water. Has anyone read any of Masaru Emoto's books? He takes photographs of water molecules. Did you know that some water, when frozen, form crystals that resemble snowflakes? Check it out, he has some of his photos and an interview on the Internet!

Dolan's Law

Advertisements are ubiquitous, all around us. They are insidious. And most people think they are immune. Not so. How do you spell relief?
Plop-plop ______ _____.
Coke, it’s the _____ thing.
If you said R-o-l-a-i-d-s, fizz-fizz, and real, the advertising succeeded. You’re correct. You’re normal. And you’re not immune to the effects of advertising. I am researching this topic right now for a presentation in August, called “Verbal Impact: Can Words Hurt You?” It’s going to be fantastic, insightful and dynamic. U biq ui tous means seeming to be everywhere at the same time; omnipresent. Ubiquitous is the adjective form of ubiquity, existence everywhere at the same time, from New Latin, “everywhere.”

Commercials do influence us. They mostly convice that we are not complete or happy unless and until we buy whatever it is that they are selling. But popular songs also promote a certain point of view and influence large groups of people.

This morning I was listening to the radio, and I heard “You had a bad day!” Then I heard the news. Now I’m in a bad mood, contemplating my bad day, which hasn’t even happened yet.

Bad Day
Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on
You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime
And I don't need no carryin' on
Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day

What is this song about? What is meant by “carrying on?” It is a deceptively negative song. It is not full of catastrophes, just clichés about hitting a new low, being off line, and losing the magic.

What a bummer.

I hate to hear this song in the morning!

Which song is about hitting a new high, being on line, and spreading the magic?

I don’t want to influence my life negatively. I have to say many affirmations after I hear this. After all, Good things happen to me every single day. I lead a charmed life! I am very fortunate. Everything good that can happen, will. This is the opposite of Murphy’s law, let’s call it Dolan’s Law. That’s my maiden name, actually my father’s last name. But it’s short, easy to spell, and Irish, like Murphy. Dolan’s Law can be the opposite of Murphy’s Law.

So if you believe in the law of attraction, which law mentioned above is it better to focus on?

Big Poke

Has this ever happened to you?

I went to the doctor a while ago and he sent me to get a blood test. So then I went to a friendly phlebotomist, who dabbed my inner elbow with alcohol, and then issued this warning, "you'll just feel a BIG POKE." As I sat there, feeling like a telephone pole was attached to my arm, I wondered why she chose those words, BIG POKE? Why would you want to suggest to someone that they experience a BIG POKE? Couldn't she have said tiny little pinch? I think I would have liked that better. Later that day I had a large ugly bruise on my arm. Well, of course, a BIG POKE is going to cause a big bruise isn't it?!

I avoided phlebotomists for a while, but eventually I had to go for another checkup. This time I kept repeating, tiny little pinch in my mind. And I noticed that the phlebotomist was silent this time. And no bruise resulted, either.

Words do influence our experiences.

Affirmations

Avoid these expressions:

Not Bad.

No problem.

You're killing me!

You'll give me a heart attack!

I'm my own worst enemy.

These are all negative statements. We need to be more positive in our spoken language, and in the language we speak inside our heads!

More about this at my seminar....

Imagination

There are some articles in my other blogs that I should include here, like "Imagination" in philogsblog.

And a bunch in musinglog about hypnosis, like "What does it feel like?"

http://philologsblog.blogspot.com

And you can check my website for other information: www.EnlightenedHypnosis.com.

Quitting Smoking

Whenever I say I’m a hypnosis consultant, people always ask me about smoking cessation. Most people know someone who quit by using hypnosis.

There was a study done over 10 years ago that found hypnosis to be 79% effective in the process of quitting smoking. This is a phenomenal success rate for eliminating an addiction. I have been told by clients and others that nicotine is a very hard habit to break. So why isn’t it common knowledge that hypnosis is so effective?

All my clients know how bad it is for you. All the statistics in the world have not made them stop. Some don’t stop even after the doctor gives them a dire diagnosis. All of my clients have tried using Will Power to stop. Sometimes this works for a few days, or a few hours. The imagination wins over will power every time. So, hypnosis uses your imagination to eliminate a bad habit, rehearse new healthy behaviors and take control over the addiction. I think that’s the key, control. I empower my clients take control of the cigarette. This is a new way of thinking for them. Most of them think the cigarette has the control. They schedule their whole life around their cigarette breaks. It takes a lot of energy to figure out where and when you can smoke these days. Most workplaces are smoke-free and the smoking areas are so inconvenient.

So when I assist someone to eliminate smoking behavior, I give them homework. I use hypnosis to facilitate the process, and I teach self-hypnosis so they can reinforce the new healthy habit of fresh-air breathing, and other goals.

Award-winning Presentation

You don’t want to miss this! You are invited to:
Verbal Impact : Can Words Hurt You?
Monday June 18, at 7pm in Tarpon Springs, Florida;
Sunday, August 12, at 8am (what a great way to wake up!)
in Marlborough, Masssachusetts, at the NGH Convention.
See www.EnlightenedHypnosis.com for more info.

I intend to explore the vibrations of words and sounds, also analyze some commercials and advertisements, in order to come up with the best way to communicate with ourselves and others.
Self-talk is very important. What are you communicating to yourself? What are you communicating to your body, your immune system, and what are you sending out to the Universe?

Goddess of Hypnosis

I would like to submit that Haythor, an ancient Egyptian Immortal, is the mother of hypnosis. She was the Goddess who gave the drum to humankind. The drum was initially used to induce a trance and to celebrate religious ceremonies.

If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please let me know.

More on Haythor later...
