Mesmerizing Bagel Talk

I feel exultant this morning (Sunday, October 7)!  I attended the Bagel Talk Toastmasters Club this morning at 9:30 AM. I was one of the 3 speakers scheduled for today. The word of the day was "exultant."

In order to bring history to life I performed a dramatic speech, entitled Franz Anton Mesmer, A Magnetic Personality. I mistakenly thought that everyone knew who he was. All the hypnotists that I am acquainted with know that he is considered the father of hypnosis. For more info, please see my other blog, Musinglog, entitled "A Mesmerizing Personality"(I changed the title). So I learned something today, never to assume people know something.

Even so, it went well, and I won the Best Speaker Award for today! That's way I started out with feeling exultant!

I was working on being more dramatic and flamboyant, like Mesmer was. That's what I love about Toastmasters. You can learn so much and have a blast doing it. But you have to actually speak in public in order to get more confident speaking in public. I dropped Speech when I was in college, because I was afraid to do a 3 minute speech. Now I truly enjoy it. Yes, I enjoy it!

If you want to develop your own unique voice, come to Bagel Talk on sunday morning at 9:30 at
Inn on the Pond
in Clearwater Florida!

How Do You Get Certified in Hypnosis?

Dear Brilliant Student:

If in the past you have contacted me about getting certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists, I want you to know that I will be teaching the Professional Hypnotist Training Class in Tarpon Springs, FL starting on Sept. 22, 2012. You will be certified on the same day as graduation, November 17.

I am looking for a few brilliant students like you to fill the class starting September 22, 2012. The class will take 9 weeks, 9 hours each Saturday. That gives us 80 hours of class time and at least 20 hours of homework. This gives us plenty of time to learn, observe, and to practice during and between classes. The regular price is $999. This price includes all class materials, 2 subscriptions, membership to the National Guild of Hypnotists and Tampa Bay chapter of the National Guild. The classes will be held in Tarpon Springs near the SPC campus on 9 consecutive Saturdays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Since I am the president of the Tampa Bay National Guild of Hypnotists, membership in the TBNGH is included in the price and ongoing support of the TBNGH is available to you for 1 year after graduation.

Please send a message to gloria@enlightenedhypnosis.com to request an application. I would like to meet you and do a personal interview as part of the application process.

Thanks for your inquiry!

Sunny and Raining

The weather report for today is sunny and raining. At about 9 AM while having breakfast in my Florida room in bright sunlight, I noticed that it had started raining. I looked at the pool, sparkling in the sunlight AND polka-dotted with raindrops. It was beautiful. I checked a few other windows, and though my house has completely bathed in sunshine, it was also being showed from above. About half the sky was covered with dark clouds. I looked for a rainbow, but didn't see one until much later, in a playground. The playground had some plastic structures for children to play on, including a curved ladder, which was curved so that the shape was a semi circle, and it was red, yellow, blue, green and orange. Almost all the colors of the rainbow. Beautiful.

It's amazing what we can see if we look at the things around us!

NGH Convention

The convention was AWESOME. All I can say is that my legs are still aching from dancing at the Banquet until midnight! And I keep having flashbacks from my favorite presenters. I saw some fantastic workshops. I will post a review tomorrow morning.

They videotaped my presentation this year, Memory Hypnosis for Baby Boomers. About 50 Baby Boomers attended. I thought it went well. I can't wait to see it!

Stay tuned!

Bagel Talk Meeting June 24, 2012

Message from the president, Abraham Colmenares:
There is just not a better way to start off your Sunday than at Bagel Talk.
Be ready for a fun, fast-pace meeting.

Oh! By the way, we did it . Bagel Talk is President's Distinguished Club!
Have a great week!

We had an urbane meeting despite the rain. The word of that day was
"urbane," and I was the grammarian for the day.

I think this blog, Verbal Impact is the correct venue to publish the newsletter for Bagel Talk, the Toastmasters Club that I now belong to. So this will be a new feature here.

I Am Toastmaster

A really interesting icebreaker speech can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpDtvumzbV0

I like the way the speech was constructed, the pictures and video in the background are really good visual aids, and the speaker is very enthusiastic. The speech is however, too short. The icebreaker speech should be at least 4 minutes long. That's my evaluation for Katerina Moutsatsos.

The Icebreaker speech is the first speech in the Competant Communicator Manual for Toastmasters International. That means in the very first speech each member will make. Many members will use it as their first speech when they join a new club. Katerina is an actress, so she's not exactly a beginner at delivering spreeches.

I have just joined BagelTalk in Clearwater. I will be running for the position of VP of Public Relations. I hope to use this blog for our bimonthly newsletter if I am elected!

Wish me luck!

May Meeting Review

We had a  meeting on Saturday, May 26. We met some new friends and old. Welcome to Cheryl and Elena! Welcome back, Kirk!

We had a revealing discussion about hypnotic techniques that everyone can use to improve their life, day, or just enhance their mood, including EFT and the Sedona Method. As a hypnotist, I classify these as self-hypnosis. I base this on the fact that they can create a receptive state, change your current emotional state, and influence behavior by giving you more options. That's what hypnosis does. Lately I explain it as using the imagination to reveal your inner resources and open up more options.

Our next meeting will be at Panera Bread on Saturday, June 23, at 7pm.

Virtual Meeting

Last Month we had a virtual meeting using Skype. This was the frist time we did a meeting using technology. If we all had advanced computer capability, it might be good, but the conference call had a few glitches. There is a delay between speaking and receiving the audio. There is also a difference in clarity of sound and continuity of sound. Some microphones work better than others. The meeting was an experiment and we learned about considerations to make before doing a session using Skype. For an individual session, it is a good option with a client you have seen before, when one of you is out of town. According to the experiences of our members, though, a phone session would be just as good.

TTYL (talk to you later) or maybe SYL (skall you later)!

4 Tips for Melting Belly Fat

I have been blogging about my effort to lose 12 pounds by the end of April. I have lost 3 so far. You can read about it in musinglog.

My main concern is regaining the slim waist I once had. It seems to be quite a problem since I turned 50. I have never had belly fat before, my shape is like a pear, not an apple. I have never counted calories. Since I have lost 3, but would like to speed things up a bit, I will be recording my food intake. I am also doing some research to see how to target the mid-section. This fat seems to be particularly stubborn. I'm having deja-vue. Did I write this before?

On April 21, I will present Four Tips for Melting Belly Fat at PMR Elite Fitness in Tarpon Springs on US 19.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Someone asked me this yesterday, Can anyone be hypnotized?

The short answer: anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be.

That means you always can resist if you choose to. Why anyone would choose to, is beyond me. All of my clients report that they feel so relaxed and enjoy it so much they really look forward to their next session, and they definitely want to learn self-hypnosis, so they can do this on their own!

There is a Self-Hynosis Class on Saturday March 31 at 10 am in Palm Harbor.
Cost $49.

The long answer:
Anyone of average or above-average intelligence can be hypnotized. The World Health Organization estimates 90% of the adult population.
There are some qualities that will help you to make the best of your session: imagination, the ability to follow instructions, motivation to change, and of course, you have to be willing.

So contact me if you would like to attend the Self-Hypnosis Class on Saturday. Just leave a comment below.

Thank you.

Cantankerous Cacophony

I'm feeling cantankerous today. What cacophony! I's a word which is not too common, but so relevant.

Cantankerous means cranky, irritable, irascible. It is from Latin, I predict. Wait, the origin of this word is much more interesting than I thot.  It comes from some alteration or mispronunciation of a Middle English word for troublemaker, which probably came from a French word for contrarian. The opposite of cantankerous is easy-going.

Cacophony means harsh disharmonious (unharmonious?) noise, as opposed to a symphony which is harmonious music. It comes from Greek, caco means bad and phone means noise.

May all you encounters today be harmonious and non-cantankerous!

A story about me

Who am I? that is the question. I am not an actress. I am not a singer.

I am a woman. White. Over 45. A wife, mother, sister and a daughter. Married White Female with hazel eyes and reddish brown hair.

The toastmaster's manual says that it's easy to talk about yourself. For some people it is. They love to talk about themselves.  Not I. That puts me in the minority.

That's it! I'm a Toastmasters International member! a competent communicator ... and competent leader!
Yes I can identify with that. I joined TI in 2009 a few months before I was scheduled to speak at a conference for the National Guild of Hypnotists. I am a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, a consulting hypnotist and a certified instructor of hypnosis. I left TI just over a year ago, because I attended a corportate club and I left the corporation. I have gone go to 3 or 4 meetings since then, but just like in 2009, 3 years ago, I just received an email from NGH saying that my proposal to be a speaker was approved. My topic is How to Enhance memory with hypnosis. You will be hearing more about that in the future as I would like to practice parts of the speech here. I am definitely open to feedback. The NGH provides evaluations for every speaker at every workshop, but most of the hypnotists are not Toastmasters and their feedback is just a number from 1 to 5. I am very excited about TI feedback and looking forward to making a very dynamic speech this year.

I have done at least 10 speeches. This year I will be presenting with another hypnotist.

A few years ago I did meet a Toastmasters member at the convention. She mentioned how great TI was. I have been speaking at the convention for several years already, but I think there is always room for improvement. And the thing is, I have my eye on the prize:    The Best Presenter's Award. Every year there is an Award Dinner. It's like the Academy Awards. But they don't allow thank you speeches, so they don't have a problem like they do with the Oscars. Still, I have a speech prepared. You see I believe in using hypnotic techniques like visualization to help achieve goals. I also believe in affirmations. And I definitely believe in Toastmasters!!

One Session of Hypnosis

It seems I am getting this question (or one like it) very often lately:

Can I lose weight, stop grinding my teeth, improve my memory, and reduce negative thoughts all in one session? Just substitute different habits if you don't have all of these.

Here is the answer: You can begin to make changes after just one session. But you probably won't be able to implement change in all these different areas. Post-hypnotic sugesstions last a few days to a few weeks, so it can get you started in the right direction. It's optimal to go once a week for a few weeks to make a change and make it permanent. New research shows that it takes 30 days to make a new neuropathway in your brain, so you must do soemething at least 30 days in a row to make a permanent change.

So what if you want to implement 3 or 4 changes? With each session you make progress and than gain momentum, each success leads to another success. Major changes are not ofteh instaneous. They take time. A 2 hour workshop or teleseminar rarely changes your life permanently. You need to do something again and again to create a habit.
