The Beatles

The Beatles have definitely had a major impact on our songs and our words!

I bet I could write an article entirely with the words from the titles of Beatles songs!

Yes, I'm Glad All Over
I was searchin Across the Universeuntil I came to the Long and Winding Road and discovered Something, that means a lot!

Yesterday, I felt like The Fool on the Hill.

You can Drive My Car,
Anytime at all.
when It's All Too Much,
Slow Down,
and Let it Be.

Words

You probably know by now that I love words. That's why they call me the Philolog, and my other blog is called philologsblog.blogspot.com.

Some quotations about words:

Mike Dooley, aka the Universe, says that "Words Create Worlds."

You know how fond I am of words.

Words are like diamonds, sometimes they sparkle, sometimes they cut.

"Words, they can do anything...
they can call in a dog at night, they can bring comfort to old friend,
say happy birthday to a girl whose balloons are slowly sinking.
But sometimes they can get you into trouble ...like the human rights activist in Zimbabwe who was kidnapped for standing up to gov corruption...or the journalist in China sentenced to 10 years in prison for sending a email, or the thousands of men and women in Iran who are arested, beaten and tortured for demanding fair election.

Now we need your words to demand justice, to take a stand, to offer hope to people around the world who are silenced for simply speaking their minds.
Write a letter or speak out today.
Your words can lead to their freedom.

Words, they can do anything."

That is the text of an interesting video I saw online a few days ago. I can't take credit for them.

Expect More Miracles

I received an email today with the subject line: Expect More Financial Disasters.

But I don't believe in being so negative, so I wondered what effect it would have if I changed the last 2 words to something more positive.

Expect more financial abundance!

Expect more family harmony!

Expect more cooperation!

Expectations are so important, why not expect something good?!

TBNGH - Last Night's Meeting

We had a great meeting last night! Some new members and one of my students were able to join us. We observed the Amazing Mark Beck demonstrate his special technique for pain management, which empowers the client to reduce or eliminate pain right there on the spot, and then use self-hypnosis to reduce or eliminate pain in the future if they should need it!

I have seen Mark do other demonstrations, but he consistently amazes me!

The next meeting will be on October 20 at 7:30 in a new location, Hodusa Tower in Clearwater, on Route 19. We will discuss hypnotic techniques for learning acceleration and study skills. For info see www.EnlightenedHypnosis.com. On the left is a menu, select Chapter Meetings.

Meeting notices are also posted on www.ngh.net. Click on chapter meetings, then a map appears, click on Florida, and a list of chapter directors comes up, then click on TBNGH,

I'm back!

I am back from the NGH convention in Massachusetts. It was wonderful, as usual. There are just so many fantastic seminars and too little time to do everything!

Michael Raugh was at my seminar, Hypnotist, Hypnotize Thyself, and he wrote about it and a few other seminars he saw at the convention at http://theunwindingpath.com/transhypno/. Thanks, Michael!

There were several other seminars which had something to do with Rejuvenation, like mine, so I attended both on Friday:

Hypnotic Rejuvenation with Dr. Angelina Ahumada from Mexico. It was wonderful and refreshing! Rejuvenating, even!

Hypno Youth and Beauty with Stephanie Ho from New York. It was very informative, and Stephanie's enthusiasm is contagious! She shared her secrets and a procedure that she uses with clients which combines hypnosis with an acupressure facial massage. The massage increases circulation to the face and neck, which has many beneficial effects, and combined with hypnosis is even more effective.

I even met with a friend from Boston and went to a wonderful seafood restaurant in Fanuel Hall!

Future Hypnotists

What is a HYPNOTIST?
Hypnotists do not possess any unusual or mystic powers. The hypnotist is a trained professional, who has chosen to use his learned skill to help individuals overcome their self-imposed barriers to success.
As a hypnotist you will be able to help people stop smoking, control their weight, enhance memory and concentration, improve work and study habits, overcome self-imposed limitations, and motivate the clients to achieve their desired goals. Your client will learn to engage the power of the mind to eliminate undesirable habits and live a healthier, more successful life.

In the last few years, there has been rapid growth in the field of hypnosis. This growth in addition to further recognition has caused the demand for competent hypnotists to dramatically increase.

What do I need to learn?
Gloria Constantas, Certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists, as an instructor of Hypnosis, along with several guest speakers, will present numerous practical techniques using the NGH approved curriculum. Throughout the course of study, the student will learn to use proven techniques in order to assist clients to make significant behavioral changes, including: the elimination of negative habits like smoking, improved work and study habits, pain control, sleep improvement, stress reduction, and weight maintenance to name a few.

In addition, students will learn how to lower the resistance to hypnotic suggestions while accessing inner resources and increasing motivation. The student will learn to techniques to teach a client to manage pain and discomfort. The elimination or relief of pain should always be done with the approval of a medical professional.

The course will offer the student the opportunity to participate in the application of the techniques that the instructor has been using effectively throughout her successful career, and will expose the student to other successful hypnotists who will present techniques according to their expertise.

Who Can Be a Successful Hypnotist?
The answer to this is very simple. Anyone of average intelligence can learn to be a successful hypnotist, given proper instruction, time, and opportunity. The degree of success thereafter rests with the individual’s own aptitude and application.

What is the Income Potential?
It depends on your level of motivation and effort.

That being said, most hypnotists charge between $75 and $150 for a one hour session. So, it can be lucrative even on a part time basis. For example, a hypnotist who works 10 hours a week can earn $750 to $1500 per week.

Graduation/Certification
After you complete the course of study, you will graduate as a Certified Consulting Hypnotist of the National Guild Of Hypnotist Inc. You will be a member of the oldest and largest hypnotists’ organization in the world, with more than 10,000 members with over 100 local chapters in 65 countries.

Included in the course fee is a one year membership in the National Guild of Hypnotists. You will be able to share in the prestige and recognition of this nation’s premier hypnosis organization. As a member you will have access to the largest library of hypnosis related videos and entitled to substantial discounts on books, CDs, DVDs, equipment and seminars. Additional benefits of membership includes: subscriptions to the HYPNO-GRAM newsletter and the acclaimed JOURNAL OF HYPNOTISM Quarterly.

It also included membership int the Tampa Bay Chapter of NGH, or TBNGH. This local chapter offers an opportunity to further your knowledge and experience, earn CEUs, network with other successful hypnotists, and get support from your instructor, Gloria Constantas, at monthly meetings.

Year-round continuing education seminars and workshops on a wide spectrum of subjects are available around the US and other countries for National Guild of Hypnotists’ members, including the annual NGH convention. Opportunities are presented to increase your knowledge, and sharpen your skills, not only in the art and science of hypnosis but also in the areas of marketing and managing successful practices.

As a certified member of The National Guild of Hypnotists you will receive an impressive 11' x 14' certificate and an embossed wallet ID card indicating your credential and membership in this prestigious professional organization.

My sentiments exactly!

This quotation sums up my ideas about the impact of words:

Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.
Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.
Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.

Hypnotized by the World of Fluctuating Form

"Hypnotized by the world of fluctuating form." That's what most people are, according to Eckhart Tolle in his audiobook, A New Earth.

I have listened to it before, but it is packed with so many profound statements, I could listen to it several more times before I could possibly absorb and implement 10% of it.

I also learned today the 3 necessary ingredients for enlightenment:
1. Non-resistance--acceptance of what is.
2. Non-judgment--acceptance without judging something or labeling it "good" or "bad"
3. Non-attachment--accepting the impermanence of things

So much of what he says just leaves me speechless. I feel so inadequate to describe all the gems in this book. I guess you will just have to read it!

Take a Walk

I just read a few more articles about the benefits of walking.

I love this one: Your Walking Pace Can Make you Younger. Great title!!

And to reduce your risk of any type of cancer, adopt an active lifesyle. Also on Real Age:
www.realage.com/ct/tips/8990

And I also read an article today about centenarians. It seems many centenarians live on the second or third floor of an apartment building and guess what?! They take the STAIRS!

The idea is to get moving. And if you need help in starting such a salubrious habit, please call your local hypnotist. We help people find their motivation and take action.

Six degrees

Let's check out the this theory of Six Degrees of Separation!

If anyone knows anyone who knows Madonna, please let me know. I'd like to get her permission to use one of her songs as a theme song. The one that begins Deeper and Deeper and Sweeter and Sweeter, just screams HYPNOSIS to me, and with a few minor changes it is all about Falling in Trance....

I can't keep from falling in trance with you,
You know there's nothing better than I'd like to do...!

Can optimism affect your health?

I found a great quotation!

Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence. - Helen Keller

And in Learned Optimism by Bernard Seligman, he mentions that optimism leads to better health, which leads to longer life. It seems that the immune system is strengthened by positive thoughts and weakened by negative thoughts. This agrees with another book, You can't Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought by John Roger.

Humor

Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table.” Young man, we're both 90 years old,” the husband said, “We may not have 45 minutes.” They were seated immediately.

I just came across this joke. I wonder if there is some way I can work it into my Hypnotic Fountain of Youth workshop?

Learned Optimism

There is a book by Martin Seligman, called Learned Optimism. In this book, Optimism is measured on 4 scales: Permanence, Pervasiveness, Personalization, Hope.

Pessimists believe that bad events are their fault, will last a long time and ruin everything. They feel helpless and think all the events in their lives are beyond their control.

Optimists believe that defeat is a temporary setback or challenge.

People who believe good events have permanent causes are more optimistic than those who believe they have temporary causes. If you think about bad things with generalizations that start with always or never, like I never pass math tests or I always miss the basket, you have a permanent pessimistic style.

This can be changed! There are some worksheets in the book to help you look at things differently and learn a new habit of thinking like an optimist. Self-hypnosis is also a great way to learn a new habit, or replace the habit of thinking pessimistically with thinking optimistically!

I took the test and came out as an optimist regarding good events and normal or average regarding bad events.

There is also information on the longevity of optimists. I will discuss this in the Hypnotic Fountain of Youth on August 9 in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

Medical Hypnotic Suggestions

I spoke to young woman yesterday. She was just 21 years old and had just lost her job. She called me about techniques to reduce stress. I recommended that she use hypnosis and learn self-hypnosis. It turns out a few months ago she went through some medical tests to find out what was the cause of her physical pain and discomfort. She was referred to a rheumatologist, presumable because it might be rheumatoid arthritis.

Well, here are the diagnoses: degenerative disc desease, Renault's syndrome and hypermobility syndrome. She was prescribed pain medication as there is no treatment for these chronic conditions, all you can do, explained her doctor is to treat the pain.

When she had a bad reaction to the third medication, the doctor explained that there was nothing else she could do for her, because the only course of action she knew was to use pain medication. She also mentioned that her condition would probably lead to fibro myalgia.

I find this reprehensible. As a hypnotist I know how much weight these words carry, especially when it comes from a "doctor." But the Hypocratic Oath says , "First do no harm."

We know that words can hurt. Ask anyone who has ever been bullied.

Also I just heard about a study where healthy people who had been misdiagnosed with cancer, developed cancer!!!!!!

I asked my client if she believed what the doctor told her. Fortunately, she was still in denial of an expectation of lifetime chronic pain which only increases and there is no hope of surcease. I recommended that she do some research on alternate methods of treatment like acupuncture, and herbs and of course, hypnosis for pain management. I also told her I had once been to a neurologist who taught bio-feedback to his headache and migraine patients. In the past, migraine was considered resistant to most pain medications, so he prescribed bio-feedback to them with spectacular results and no unpleasant side efects. Of course, I consider bio-feedback to be a form of self-hypnosis.

I would just like to take this opportunity to caution medical professionals to be careful with their words. Patients are very vulnerable.

Another study states that patients who were not told to expect hair loss and vomiting with chemotherapy did NOT experience these side effects.

I'll put you under...

Someone recently contacted me and asked about which type of hypnosis would be necessary to relieve panic attacks. And which type of hypnosis would put you under the deepest. This was my response:

Hypnosis is very effective for panic attacks, but I would need to know more about your situation and about which methods have worked in the past to alleviate them. Have you ever taken medication? Have you been diagnosed with Panic Disorder?

It is very difficult to find appropriate words to describe the hypnotic trance. Many people feel relaxed, heavy and maybe like they are sinking, so we describe it as being "under." But this may be misleading. We also say someone is "under" anesthesia and this is very different from hypnosis, even though hypnosis can be used for anesthesia! The client is always in control and to many clients the trance does not feel much different than daydreaming. And yet it is still very powerful, as changes can occur very quickly that people have not been able to implement using other methods.

But I wouldn't say there is a type of hypnosis which "puts" the client "under." Actually, the level of hypnotic trance is determined by the individual. It seems that some people go "deeper" than others, again the word "deeper" can be misleading, if you are a deep subject, you can use hypnosis as anesthesia and you can experience hallucinations after hypnosis. Some people are light subjects and though it is unlikely they would hallucinate, and unadviseable to do major surgery without chemical anesthesia for them, they can make significant changes in behavior very easily, like quitting smoking.

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention. If you can become so absorbed in a book or movie, or even a daydream that you don't hear someone walk into the room and speak to you, you have experienced a trance. The kind of hypnosis I do involves facilitating the client to experience physical relaxation, and then talking to them, giving them suggestions that we have discussed before the relaxation, and some possibly some metaphors and stories. This might sound very similar to a guided imagery.

I'm curious if you have experienced individual hypnosis before? or was it a group session? I would really like to work with you if you feel it would be beneficial.

Affirming your Truth

Even Suze Ormond advocates the use of affirmations for her clients who desire financial freedom, but Suze calls them "Truths." She states that when she first started as a stock broker and drove a delapidated 25-year-old car which she parked around the corner so no one would see it, she affirmed her "truth" every day as often as possible, that she earned $10,000 per month in commissions. She says she knew it was far from the truth when she started affirming it, but soon became true for her.

See my other blog, http://musinglog.blogspot.com. for the article about her audio program called Financial Freedom.

The Mentalist

There's a new show on that I really enjoy. The main character, the "mentalist" uses hypnosis in almost every episode. And until this week, it has been a more realistic portrayal than I have ever seen on television before. There is lots of food for thought in every episode, and I think I may comment on the show on a regular basis.

Does anybody else enjoy the show?

Class

I learned hypnosis under Gloria Constantas and became an NGH Certified Hypnotist in 2007.
Gloria is able to bring a unique perspective to hypnosis training through her background as a counselor– a perspective that I feel has better prepared me for working with clients and meeting their needs than I might have received had I gotten my training elsewhere. Gloria has a contagious enthusiasm for the field of hypnosis. She has demonstrated over and over again that she genuinely cares about her students and the quality of training and preparation they get from her. I have worked with many clients since my certification, and Gloria has always been available to provide helpful advice in dealing with any unusual situations that I might encounter. She is an experienced, seasoned professional and, I might add, a top-notch hypnotist. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning hypnotism, and the investment that a student makes in learning under her is well worth every penny.

That's what Mark Beck had to said about the class!

Verbal Impact January 2009

Happy New Year! Yes, this is the January edition of Verbal Impact. I wanted to write an inspirational article about new beginnings and new year's resolutions and hypnosis for guaranteed success and all that, but I'm already starting on my February newsletter. So this one will go out with a joke, a quote, transformational book review, and invitation to the next TBNGH meeting on February 23, and the Professional Hypnotist Class which will start in March, and may be held for nine weeks on Saturdays only.

What do you think of the new schedule?

For the complete newsletter, see www.EnlightenedHypnosis.com/January_2009.html and see musinglog.blogspot.com for the transformational book review about Janet Conner's book, Writing Down Your Soul!

See below for the new feature, the joke of the month.

hypnotist jokes

My son just told me the funniest joke!

Q. Why did the math book go to the hypnotist?

A. Because he had so many problems!

Another classic:

Q. How many hypnotists does it take to change a light bulb?

A. Only one, but the lightbulb has to want to change.

And then theres the one about the hypnotist who used an antique watch....

Online Hypnosis Class

You can get hypnosis training online. What? Yes, I've seen several websites that offer this. I don't know much about these classes, but I can't imagine how the student gets "hands on" experience doing it this way.

The course I offer must be 100 hours to conform to the National Guild standards, and as a National Guild Certified Instructor, I use their approved curriculum. When I got certified in 1996, there were 2 classes, Basic Hypnosis and Advanced. These 2 classes have been combined into one comprehensive class.

This is how the 100 hours breaks down: 50 hours classwork, and 50 hours demonstration and hands-on practice. The class work covers the 2 manuals and other materials provided by NGH as well as guest speakers and some additional information based on my own experience using hypnosis and giving presentations at the NGH convention. There are many demonstrations usually done by me and a student volunteer. Then we break off into groups and hypnotize each other. I observe these practice sessions and often participate myself. Then, of course, there is homework every week, to practice different processes on your own family and friend volunteers. When we come back to class we discuss the various results of the processes done. Everyone does not respond the same way to suggestion and people vary in their level of suggestibility. So these discussions are very important and the students learn how to improve their technique and interpret their results. This experience and feedback is invaluable. I know my students feel capable and competent when they graduate. After all, they have had lots of experience themselves by the time they graduate and they also have the benefit of discussing the other student’s results.

Also, I offer continuing support to my students. As the Director of the Tampa Bay NGH chapter, I offer monthly meetings in order to give support and continuing education to my students and all hypnotists in the area. My students also are encouraged to contact me with any questions they may have. And they do contact me often. Usually asking about whether hypnosis can help with -------------. In my opinion it can help. The best and most common result of hypnosis is stress reduction and I think stress makes everything worse, so reducing stress makes it better. And stress affects us physically, mentally, emotionally and behaviorally. It suppresses the immune system. It affects us in so many ways, that we don’t even realize that the stress level has steadily been increasing, until we finally….snap! And then we have to pay attention.

So if you are considering getting trained in hypnotism, please check out the course description at http://www.enlightenedhypnosis.com/.

Thank you.

Too-Busy Syndrome

What is your hobby?

Do you have a hobby?

What ever happened to hobbies?

People used to have hobbies. Now all they do is work. I think it is a symptom of Too-busy Syndrome or TBS. The word hobby used to mean a diversion. Now work is our diversion and many have 2 jobs or more. We seem to personify the rule, "Idle hands do the devil's work." and "Keep busy to keep your mind off it."

What's so great about work?

It can be lucrative. It can also be exhausting.

I see a lot of clients with TBS. Hypnosis is such a welcome relief after a busy day. And I teach my clients self-hypnosis so they can enjoy it every day. I haven't heard much about "burnout" lately, but TBS leads to burnout and if you don't find a way to nurture yourself, you cannot possibly nurture anyone else!

I guess self-hypnosis is my hobby. One of them, anyway. I have learned that I must take care of myself, or I'm not good for anyone else.

Professional hypnotist class

I am so excited. This is going to be a great class. A few people have already registered. I would like to have a full class by the end of this month so I can order student kits. I love the student kits, they have 2 manuals, several colored handouts on card stock, so they can be laminated. These are tools you use with almost every student. And the pendulums. We really have fun with them. Since this is a hands-on class, we get to hypnotize each other every day. As the instructor, I have to observe all the students, but I take every opportunity to get hypnotized, so I can be sure they are mastering the techniques. And of course, for my own enjoyment. I remember at the last class, I had a little headache coming on, so I allowed a student to hypnotize me and let the discomfort fade away. There are just so many amazing things about hypnosis.

Happy World Hypnosis Day!

Today is World Hypnosis Day! And I went to Oak Trail Bookstore in Palm Harbor to see a presentation done by Debbie Lane. What a great way to start the year! Debbie Lane gave us some new techniques to change our negative emotional states to positive, a new perspective on the Economy, and a Prosperity Challenge.
