Healing Words

I went to a concert last night and heard Dave Roth. I enjoyed his song, called Energy Medicine, so I asked him if I could quote him. He consented.

A few kind words can affect the way someone is feeling,
having a direct correlation to the rate of their healing.

They were about the impact of WORDS, verbal impact, so I think this quotation belongs here in Verbal Impact, rather than in philologsblog or musinglog.

It was a very interesting concert in a small venue in Palm Harbor Florida.

Dave sings folk music and writes most of his own music. He didn't play it last night, but he has a song called Irreconcilable Similarities. Love that title!

There's more info on www.DavidRothmusic.com, if you are interested.

Tampa Bay National Guild of Hypnotists

The TBNGH is not having a meeting this month, January 2010, as we review our organizational plan and mission to better serve our members and hypno-enthusiasts in this area.

Thank you for your patience.

Knuckles

I wonder where the expression, knuckle-head" came from? Is it related to knuckle-sandwich?

Knuckle comes to us from Middle Enlgish, somehow related to Old High German wird for knot. It is the rounded prominence formed by the ends of 2 bones adjacent bones at a joint. And a few other things that somehow resemble a knuckle or the prominence at an intersection.

Knucklehead means dumbbell according to my Dictionary, another interesting compound word. This could be confusing, as dumbbell has 2 meanings. It would be strange to hear someone at the health club looking for some knuckles!

Knuckle-sandwich is not in my dictionary. I think the meaning is clear, but there could be people who speak English as a second language and they might not understand that it means a punch to the mouth.

My Favorite Holiday

It's January 1, and that means it is only a few more days until my absolute favorite holiday. My absolute favorite holiday in the world is World Hypnosis Day! World Hypnosis Day is on January 4 every year, for about 5 or 6 years now. The date was picked so that hypnotists could help their clients keep their New Year's Resolutions.

Many people resolve year after year to quit smoking, or lose weight or get over the fear of public speaking. If I may, I'd like to suggest that if you want to KEEP your resolution this time, call your local consulting hypnotist. For a referral, see www.ngh.net.
